What are the operating procedures for Hydraulic Center Rest?

Dec. 04, 2025

The key points for operating a hydraulic center rest are to fix it behind the CNC lathe.

While the workpiece is rotating, first ensure that the two lower support jaws evenly contact the workpiece's support surface before clamping,

then fasten the top cover, and adjust the position of the upper support jaw before clamping it.

The support surface should be coaxial with the main spindle's rotation center to avoid uneven pressure on the support jaws, which could cause misalignment and over-positioning,

 leading to the workpiece slipping and causing accidents. So, what should be paid attention to during normal operation?

1. The hydraulic center rest must be installed, operated, and maintained by trained personnel;

2. Fix the hydraulic center rest behind the lathe. While the workpiece is rotating, first ensure that the two lower support jaws evenly contact the workpiece's support surface before clamping,

then fasten the top cover, and adjust the position of the upper support jaw before clamping it.

The support jaws of the hydraulic center rest should apply even force, with appropriate tightness, and operate smoothly;

3. In actual machining, the rotational speed of the hydraulic center rest's rollers must not exceed the specified value;

4. When using a hydraulic center rest to clamp workpieces with high surface precision, to prevent the support jaws from wearing the workpiece surface,

a layer of pure metal sheet or fine sandpaper should be placed between each support jaw and the support surface.

The back of the sandpaper should be attached to the workpiece surface. When the workpiece surface has grooves or notches,

a brass ring can be used on the outer surface of the workpiece as the support surface for the hydraulic center rest.
