How to Choose The Right Chuck?

Jan. 30, 2024

The chuck is a mechanical device on the machine tool for clamping the workpiece. A machine tool attachment that clamps and positions the workpiece using the radial movement of the movable jaws that are all over the chuck body. The chuck is generally composed of a chuck body, a movable jaw, and a claw-driving mechanism. The chuck body has the smallest diameter of 65 mm, up to 1500 mm, with through holes in the center for the purpose of penetrating the workpiece or bar; the back has a cylindrical or short tapered structure, either directly or through the flange. It is connected to the end of the machine tool spindle. Chucks are typically mounted on lathes, cylindrical grinders, and internal grinders, and can be used with milling machines for milling machines and drill presses.

In order to make the machining process more and more accurate and stable, the chuck has become an important "additional item". The chucks are mainly on the market. There are two types of domestic chucks and imports (Taiwan, and foreign). In terms of domestic chucks, Yantai and Hohhot's Zhonghuan (Global) occupy a large share of the market. Other important factors include Changzhou IVY Foundation, Changzhou Beidefu, and so on. Taiwan's chuck sales accounted for 60% of the imported chuck market, and South Korea also has a very large share. The original Japanese and European and American chucks are also high-end products.

The number of jaws of the chuck can be divided into the two-jaw chuck, three-jaw chuck, four-jaw chuck, six-jaw chuck, and special chuck. The use of power can be divided into manual chuck, pneumatic chuck, hydraulic chuck, electric chuck, and mechanical chuck. The structure can be divided into the hollow chuck and medium real chuck.

In fact, domestic production technology is fully capable of producing high-quality chuck products, but the main problem is that there is a big gap between heat treatment and detail processing and imported chucks. In addition, the domestic market has a large user base and fierce competition. Manufacturers are forced to control product costs as much as possible, in order to obtain a lower price in exchange for market competitiveness. This has led to some common problems in domestic chucks, such as poor stability, short service life, and short repetition accuracy.

Most imported chucks ensure stable chuck clamping accuracy and long service life due to their strict process. In the so-called one-point price, the price and technical content of the three types of chuck manufacturers in China, Taiwan, Japan, and Europe, and the United States have been changed from low to high. Therefore, among them, the Taiwan Chuck has achieved the world's advanced technical standards at a reasonable price, and 60% of its share of imports has proved its market acceptance.

After the long-term use of the lathe chuck for a long time, precision can be ensured and the lubrication work becomes very important. It is absolutely not correct or absolutely unsuitable for lubrication, which will result in abnormal function at low pressure, weakening of clamping force, poor clamping accuracy, and no abnormal wear and seizure. Therefore, it is necessary to properly lubricate the chuck.

First, apply molybdenum disulfide grease (black in color) about once a day, and put the grease into the chuck nozzle until the grease overflows the jaw surface or the inner hole of the chuck (the inner hole protection sleeve and the joint nut) However if the chuck is rotated high or a large amount of water-based cutting oil is used in processing, more and more lubrication is required, which is determined according to different situations. Second, be sure to use the air gun or similar tool to clean the chuck body and the slide surface at the end of the job. The next thing to do is to remove the chuck and disassemble it about every 6 months, keeping the sliding surface of the jaws clean and giving lubrication, which increases the life of the chuck. The cutting oil with an anti-rust effect is used to prevent rust on the outside of the chuck, preventing the chuck from rusting and thus reducing the clamping force, so that the workpiece cannot be clamped.

Equipped with a suitable chuck will make the CNC machine tool even more powerful. When the manufacturer chooses, it must choose according to the actual situation of its own product, so that it can play a better and better role. We are a chuck manufacturer.
