How does the Hydraulic Center Rest usually operate?

Among machine tool accessories, a hydraulic steady rest is essential for machining long machine parts. 

The portion contacting the crankshaft typically consists of a central support and two symmetrically spaced diagonal supports on either side. 

These are controlled hydraulically and mechanically, with the hydraulic transmission system primarily responsible for quick adjustment of the support.


The mechanical system primarily consists of a gear train, with a pinion, a spur gear, and then a lead screw, 

which allows the cylindrical support to move up and down. The three rollers of the hydraulic steady rest support the machined shaft,

 forming a circle aligned with the machine spindle. Roller 1 is driven directly by a hydraulic screw. 

The cylinder screw drives the camshaft forward, while the left end of the camshaft screw lever drives the camshaft roller bearing.

 Rollers 2 and 3 are rotated according to the lever's support point. The circle formed by each of the three rollers should be aligned with the center of the machine spindle. 

Therefore, linearity depends on the curves and manufacturing accuracy of each camshaft.


In order to better ensure that the machining of parts is within the tolerance range, 

supports are used to improve the compressive strength of parts and improve the machining accuracy of parts. Generally speaking, 

the larger the ratio of shaft size to diameter, the smaller the compressive strength. 

Therefore, CNC lathes must use it when machining long and thin shafts,

 because the hydraulic center stand is a key component to ensure the machining accuracy of such enterprise product parts.
